Analytics and the ability to use customer generated data is disrupting existing business models and creating a new discipline where companies need to develop this competency or run the risk of not being able to compete with their peers. 10 years ago the mantra was embrace digital and social media or perish. Today the mantra is embrace Analytics or perish. Analytics based companies ranging from Flipkart to Redbus to small start-up like travel-khana are creating efficiencies and a deeper consumer understanding. The list is endless. . The normal expectation is that analytics is fine for digital companies and also for large corporations like Hindustan Lever, P&G, Maruti etc. But the truth is that the principles of analytics can be applied by small and medium sized organisations also.
